Sea Survival training at RNLI College
RNLI College Tours

Find out how our crews and lifeguards are trained with a behind the scenes 90 minute tour of the RNLI College. Conducted by our dedicated volunteer tour guides, tours cost just £7.50 per adult or £2.50 per child (min 10 years +) or are free to College residents. 

During your 90 minute guided tour, you will be given the chance to explore the RNLI College and its training facilities, including our world-class Sea Survival centre, which hosts the wave tank and Lifeboat simulator (subject to availability).

Tours take place daily Monday to Thursday at either 11am or 2.30pm, Friday at 3.00pm and Saturday at 11.00am (subject to volunteer availability). Booking in advance is necessary. Please contact reception to book your place on the College Discovery Tour on 0300 300 7654  or

All-weather Lifeboat Centre Tours

Visit our world class centre of excellence in lifeboat engineering, production and maintenance situated next to the College. The 60 minute tour goes behind the scenes to see where we build new all-weather boats, refit, repair and maintain the all-weather fleet as well as our hovercraft, the College training fleet and other local inshore relief lifeboats. Due to this being a working environment tours take place twice a week and are limited to a maximum of 12 people. Tours cost £5.00 per adult or £2.50 per child (min 10 years +).

Tours take place on Wednesday at 4.30pm or Saturday at 10.00am (subject to volunteer availability). Booking in advance is necessary. Please contact reception to book your place on the All Weather Lifeboat Centre Tour on 0300 300 7654 or email


Useful Information

Car parking

Due to crew training parking is not available on-site.  However, local pay and display are within walking distance to the College.  If you are travelling by minibus or coach then please inform the Events team who may be able to reserve a space for you at the College (subject to availability).

A working venue

Please note that the RNLI College is a working venue and so we cannot guarantee access to the wave tank or simulator due to training requirements.


The building is accessible to wheelchair users and lifts are available to access the upper floors.  The tour requires all visitors to be able to stand/walk for 90 minutes although, if, at any time your guests need to rest then, please, bring this to the attention of your tour guide.

On the day

Please arrive at least 10 minutes prior to your tour start time and inform reception of your arrival.  The tour will commence from the main College reception at the designated time.
